additionally, looking at hiring politics within blizzard in the months before, we know for a fact that leading positions were posted with huge signing bonuses, several millions even. There are few things that can justify these layoffs to this day to the public in my opinion.
I mean that's the point isn't it, they cut tenured employees to get new people who were fresh-faced and willing to work for less so that their "saving" is higher which leads to their bonuses being higher? I never said it was good but that's what they did

I'll rephrase it a little bit then - there's nothing that explains these layoffs that could maintain the image and reputation blizzard had build for themselves over decades in terms of working climate, employee treatment and the feel of the "blizzard family" to outsiders imho

yeah the outside reputation took big hit; alumni that moved on even a while back have seen signs of mid- and upper-mid level mismanagement, and even before they've had a reputation of lower than industry avg for salary for non execs
