And there was a time that police investigated and prosecuted shop lifting? I worked in a shop over 30 years ago and that wasn’t a thing even then.

I've always believed that anyone who shoplifts should be thrown in jail for an appropriate time. They stole! But because this new law was introduced by idiots and backed by idiots in S.F., now NOBODY will go to jail!!

I’m also happy that so many conservative and libertarian types are happy to spend $1000s prosecuting $10s or $100s to punish people. Very fiscally prudent.

You make no sense. You think it's ok for these people to STEAL as long as it's $950 or less??? You don't think they shouldbbe punished for it??!! I said that they should go to jail for an appropriate time. That doesn't mean forever or for years.

You want to spend more money investigating and punishing petty crime than the crime itself. Are you this profligate with other peoples money in other areas too?

If this shop lifting continues, the stores will go out of business and I don't see how that benefits anyone in the areas where the crime is happening. People need a drug store to go to. Once the stores shut down, they'll stay empty for months and even years.

The stores will not go out of business. The companies who own them might take their operations to fewer locations but if you think central SF really supported 17 full size Walgreens and CVS stores I don’t know what to say. You’re being played.
