        Any reason they couldn’t use UCl6 instead of UF6? If we’re operating in the “batshit insane high-pressure halogen plasma” regime, may as well use something a *teensy bit* less oxidizing than fluorine.

        At that temperature, the chemical potential of fluorine vs chlorine is not important - you don't want it to touch the walls at all. However, UF6 is a gas at 55°C while UCl6 only boils at 177°C, making it harder to handle.
