While this is happening, people are trimming down organisations, and assets left and center. Lean government! mentalities rule, and people think they're building impartial products and services. Corporates are still the most efficient structure. But derail and ignore feedback

#niceGuys have been such a pervasive problem, if you have ever read#NoMoreMrNiceGuy, it blames feminism and the destruction of traditional gender roles. But it doesn't look at the fact that traditional gender roles are the same with "Caretaking" and "Hidden Contracts"Show this thread -
But back to the beginning again.
@Apple makes billions by designing a phone for normal people. Then they slowly get lost in design masturbation and forget that they build products to serve people. Like people drop phones. But we're still making phones with breakable screens??Show this thread -
Start up culture fuels boy-kings and servicing short term needs. Entire industries and jobs are made irrelevant, more people are forced to live paycheck to paycheck. Governments are told to stay out, the market will solve this. The suicide rate slowly climbs.

But it's not all bleak.
@Microsoft stopped a nose dive into irrelvancy by releasing the surface, which was designed FOR people, not for a company expecting a laptop for the next quarter. They pivoted hard into empowering people. They used to have 12 people on a committee for UIShow this thread -
The
#surface has a soft keyboard. Guess what people love. Soft things, things with diverse applications and things that expand what people can do. This is what@apple has lost.@NintendoAmerica with its latest announcement has also focused on sustainability.Show this thread -
Even now we have "socially responsible" companies like
@zenergynz still disproportionately charge people for "value added" services that people can't afford. By the way, earn more than 40k nz? You're in the top 1% of earners in the world. Our way of living is unsustainable.Show this thread -
This bubble of "Clean people" is the reality we've conned ourselves into, if someone has a diagnosed mental health condition, consider that they've gone through a tonne more self reflection than anyone else, because you have to. Just today I told my entire story to a doc, again.

Look into
#CapeTown. They don't believe their own government officials that they are running out of water. I don't want to imagine what will happen when it does. People aren't secure enough to ponder that, they are too busy rushing to work and to school and then trying to look okShow this thread -
And I think it's the reality that an investor board, and a slow changing hierarchy of a corporation, that's to blame. They're so scared of making mistakes everything has to be checked in triplicate, just like
@microsoft in the 2000'sShow this thread -
And no, a
#meritocracy is not the solution.@google eventually had to embrace@GoogleDesign. They finally had to accept the reality they needed customer service for@googleanalytics . Reality has this funny way of butting inShow this thread -
@muledesign has it right. Sustainable growth, they don't grow fast because they want to be able to take the jobs they want to work on. Hey, sounds a lot like the opposite of#insecurity doesn't it. Insecurity keeps margins low, masks the value that is added. READ DESIGN IS A JOB.Show this thread -
Because design is a job, it's not meaningless window dressing. Anything done in excess is bad, but to decide that "Oh we're engineering", it doesn't need to look nice, forgets that you have to show this to a person eventually. That you impact someones life.

People are angry, just like the
#4chan#gamergate people, and all it takes is a muppet to direct that anger towards the wrong target. Might as well set the bull loose if you're going to die anyway.Show this thread -
So you have services and devices now, that assume you're a thirty year old that's seen this stuff before. 99% of the world has to get by, and get little in the way of support or a decent fucking manual. I'd feel pretty angry and insecure.

But this isn't a malicious thing, it's done because people grab the tools that are quick to hand. Accessibility is an afterthought, even though there's

The neoliberal dogma is 'trim the fat' but that fat is what keeps culture rich, and keeps people feeling secure. Our organisations are slow to react, and completely non responsive to both feedback and negative feedback. Tools like twitter have helped, but then you have
