We want to recognize all the individuals who volunteer for the Topeka Police Department including Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS), Citizens Academy Ambassadors and TPD Chaplains. In 2022, these individuals donated 6,772 hours of their time. Thank you volunteers!

Earlier today, TPD held its annual awards ceremony, recognizing the heroic actions of sworn & civilian staff in 2022. A special congrats goes to Ofc. Kahler for being selected as the Officer of the Year, & Crime Analyst Tiffany Baker, the Civilian of the Year for 2022.

Corporal David Gogian had served with the TPD 12 years as a Reserve Officer. Then an additional 8 years as a full time Officer. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.
Officer Jeff Atherly had served with the TPD for almost two years. He is survived by a son.

Ten years ago, on December 16, 2012, Officer Jeff Atherly and Corporal David Gogian were killed while investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle.
