As a player with not LGS that drives an hour for Pre-release, I couldn't agree with you more.
This is my semiannual plea to kill prerelease weekend and just turn them into straight-up release weekends. I think they are actively bad for stores, players and Wizards at this point. @bazardebagda the counter argument is that for actual bigger tournaments like PTQs or GPs, having the set legal a weekend after the PR can cause problems with card availability, I know that was an issue before and people complained that sets should not be legal that fast. -
Prerelease is such a drop in the bucket to card availability. Why would having a big event the week after a release be much different than a week after the release a week after the Prerelease?

Seems like the pre-release might be a pre-internet anachronism at this point. They were a hype vehicle before and are a dampener now.

I think the argument is to have all that with NO weird dead zone between the celebration and the set’s legality a week-ish later. And don’t settle for not asking for what you want, not matter how unlikely it may seem - change has to start *somewhere*

Thankfully they’ve been moving more in that direction: prerelease Friday doesn’t start at midnight, can buy boxes at prereleases. Now they just need to make release day on Monday and we are all set. Imagine if stores could do a WEEK of release drafts every night.

One of the problems we have every year is how shitty release weekend is, comparatively. This is an interesting idea.
