paper out! "most animal behavior is not the result of clever learning algorithms but is encoded in the genome. Specifically, animals are born with highly structured brain connectivity, which must be compressed through a “genomic bottleneck”.

In dark, tunicates (a small animal with only 177 neurons!) will swim upward. When it's light, they don't distinguish between up and down. How do they switch between these contextual behaviors? 👇how antennal cells and photoreceptors interact

Team big science is great, as long as it's not at the expense of curiosity driven science A foundation of modern mobio, PCR, can be traced to fortuitous discoveries by people wondering how life exists in boiling water One example of many

So, what is this paper about? SYNPLA is a method to label synapses in a specific pathway that recently underwent LTP. The principle is simple. We exploit the fact that after LTP GluA1 temporarily moves into the synapse from extra-synaptic pools.

The open question is whether we've made a plane or a hot air balloon. (One could argue that GOFAI was a catapult, to use 's favorite analogy).

After a long and sometimes difficult relationship, I am considering moving on from Endnote + Word on my Mac. I am thinking about Zotero or Mendeley. Is the grass greener? Or should I try to patch things up with Endnote?

Some of ’s most fascinating work happens at the intersection of AI and neuroscience. Our paper published in today is a good example. It takes inspiration from our recent work in Reinforcement Learning to shed new light on how dopamine works in the brain.

I’ve had mixed feelings about becoming active on Twitter over the last few months. It can be very interesting, but it can also be a real time sink. With this tidbit , I can now say that my time has been well spent. Thank you!
