Our engineering and surgery teams have written a paper about some of the hardware used in our 2-photon imaging pipeline, up on bioRxiv today. CAD drawings and information are also available on our website:

As I have begun writing up my thesis, I get to play around making pretty figures and I found this beaut of a recorded neuron from my in vivo patch work (L2/3 pyramidal neuron in S1 cortex).

Sacrificed a Rook and the Exchange to get connected passed pawns on the 7th, but I (and my opponent, thankfully!) overlooked a REMARKABLE reply. Can you find it?

this is absolutely nuts. The AI GPT-2 has learned to play chess moderately well (able to give bad human amateurs a game) – despite only being a text AI, learning from a corpus of chess notation text, and not having any concept of what a chessboard is

New preprint from the lab! A huge amount of work from showing how two different hippocampal to prefrontal circuits bidirectionally control exploration. Gene expression to behaviour and everything in between!

Neuroscientists say that the brain runs on electrical impulses. Well then how come it doesn't need batteries? Checkmate brain nerds.

In a very competitive field, this has to be one the single worst takes on genetics I have yet come across. And that is saying something.

I know I just recommended joining the HHMI, but don't fall for this trap. Yes, it is HHMI, but instead of maintaining your prestigious position somewhere in civilization, you'll be swatting mosquitoes in a cafeteria at this sleepaway camp of lens-tinkerers and animators.

30k people at SFN could easily be 10k if we ban the picture takers, rodent whisperers, psychotherapists, pharma hacks, CME junketeers, mustachioed ”outside” biologists, model flogging speculators, neophrenologistas, cell biologists, and creepy crawly model systems. Keeping it 💯
