Any private prison is an abomination and the owners thereof should be therein. Further the City, County, State, Federal lawmakers that made these possible should join them.

The only legitimate purpose of prisons is rehabilitation. And, though the 13th permits it, slave labor is likewise an abomination - not to be condoned.

A prisoner who chooses to work while imprisoned should earn the minimum wage and be allowed to direct that salary to support of his family or save it as investment in his future upon release.

No one should be paying toward the cost of their incarceration. That is a cost the society chose to bear in sentencing the prisoner.

The conundrum then is that a free man should be materially better off than the prisoner - who must have 3 solids, a bunk, and healthcare. Kinda makes clear that healthcare is a right. We must also logically and justly have a UBI or even forego having prisons.
