If you prohibited students from majoring in the humanities before they show sound competence in multivariable calculus and linear algebra, you would clear out all the riffraff in one stroke. Of course this will never happen, but is worthwhile thought experiment.

Euclid would be a better choice than linear algebra, but the idea is sound.

I don’t think anyone would disagree that some math, not arithmetic, should be part of any rounded person’s education. But just throwing out there linear algebra? Seems arbitrary.
