Yeah! The syntax is actually just: if command; then do-thing; fi And '[' is very similar to 'test', so these do the same thing: if [ -z "$str" ]; then echo string is empty; fi if test -z "$str"; then echo string is empty; fi

That's what I love on
#shell scripts. It also means that you can easily replace shell keywords simply by replacing the executable. BTW Linux/Unix shell is considered a 4th generation language (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth-generation_programming_language …), while languages like C/C++/C#/Java/etc. are 3rd generation. - Još 1 odgovor
