Why even look at carry-on bags. It's not like anyone would ever take a weapon, commandeer a plane, and use it as a missile to destroy a building. They would be killed as well.

The airlines could simply stop people from buying one-way tickets with cash then boarding with box cutters. Or... we could create a billion dollar industry based on people being patted down, groped and having their shoes run through x-ray machines. Let's go with door #2.
