I proudly served in the CIA post 9/11. Fought actual terrorists. The ban makes that fight harder. It makes us less safe.

After 9/11, I joined the CIA. Spent some time fighting the Taliban who harbored Osama Bin Ladin, who helped him escape our justice after 9/11. Last week, Trump invited the Taliban to Camp David, to our country, for a photo op. What the fuck does he think “never forget” means?!

For what it's worth, I was head of CIA's Counter Terrorism Americas branch from 2007-2009. One of our responsibilities was assessing possible international terrorists threats coming across the U.S. southern border. In my opinion, the President's tweet below is racist bullshit.

Comics aren’t for everyone. Created by the children of immigrants, it is the medium of the outsider and the outcast, the nerd who won’t fit in. We exist, we thrive because we recognize and amplify the voices of those who must struggle mightily to be heard. We say, I’m here.

Supergirl was a small, ambitious book that got out there and got attention because of the passion of all the fans who took a chance, read it, and shared it. We saw what you did; and I are nothing but grateful.

George Perez never went half way, in art or life. He pushed the limit of what a comic could do: his style was somehow, impossibly both overwhelmingly powerful and subtly graceful. He matched his passion for his trade with his passion for his fans and friends. RIP breaks my heart.

Odd, cool world. I grew up literally across the street from the great actor, Randall Park in West LA. He was close friends with my big brother, Dylan and was at my house all the time. Fast forward 30 years and there he is in WandaVision, a show inspired by some of my stuff.

Daughter: Mommy played piano and became a boring lawyer. Daddy didn’t play piano and he gets to make up stories about Batman. So why should I practice? Me: Hey, being a lawyer is NOT boring...theoretically. Wife: Enjoying your health insurance? Me: I’ll be quiet.

Batman 50 is not the end. This is a 100 issue story documenting and celebrating the love of Batman and Catwoman. Whatever happens, whatever anyone says, nothing’s going to spoil that.

This is very cool. The new Wonder Woman #1 cover completes the Jim Lee DC Trilogy Triptych. With Superman on the left, Wonder Woman in the middle, and Batman on the right. Love that.

Maus is one of—if not the—greatest works of graphic storytelling ever. It is horrifying and beautiful, bombastic and subtle, universal and yet incredibly personal. It should be read and it should be taught.

Hey , I say this as a comic book writer, as someone who served his country in two wars, as someone who saw with my own eyes the insurrection of 1/6: Senator, you’re a bad guy, you’re a villain, you’re a traitor—and, again and again and again, you’re a loser. Resign.
Quote
Sen Ted Cruz: "Have you noticed in how many movies how often rabid environmentalists are the bad guys? Whether it's Thanos or go to 'Watchmen.' The view of the Left is people are a disease"

I sometimes wonder if narrative fiction would survive if we all acknowledged that bopping someone on the head so they pass out and then wake up completely fine a little later is not a thing.

Ah the “MF” was an insult because you used your platform to discourage people from wearing masks, which will cost lives—the opposite of what Superman would do. I don’t know if I’m tough but I did fight for my country overseas and didn’t just wear a cape in front of a camera.

He was the most influential writer, editor, and publicist in the history of comics. The nerdy voice of so many generations. He wanted to write the great American novel. He did. (And once I got him to laugh at a dick joke while we were taking a pic. These are framed on my desk.)

I had a Taliban bounty on my head once. Never occurred to me that a U.S. President might be cool with it. What a cowardly piece of shit he is.

Ava! I’m so incredibly proud of the work we did, it was such a joy seeing you bring your passion and talent to these characters. I really felt Kirby’s legacy was being honored here and I wish we could’ve kept going. That one Barda/Scott scene where…damn.

Loved Fraction's Hawkeye, The Visions, and was super invested in the original Civil War. Anything with Joe Mad art still gives those super nostalgia vibes. Use the app, so a little behind on super current. Always love reading X-Men, and digging Black Panther.

Denny O’Neil made timeless comics by making comics about his time. The revolutions of the 60s, the excesses of the 70s, the corruption of the 80s, the facades of the 90s—he used super hero tropes as brushstrokes to paint a picture of who we are and who we could be. RIP.

I hear a lot about what artists contribute to comics, all the years of training and toil. What I don’t hear enough is what delicate genius it takes to master the art of the word and deliver a comic script that Shakespeareily delivers the transcendence of sequential poetry.

Love seeing people at cons. But yesterday we had a Rorschach cos player who took his mask off at our table. You think I swear a lot in comics you should see me in person. After an impolite talking to, Rorschach was escorted from the con. Wear your mask. We’re not fucking around.

Tim did the alt covers for the first 25 or so issues of Batman. This is my favorite. Mostly because, well, how many arms does Batman have? I asked Tim about this, and he hadn’t noticed, and we both laughed a bunch. Hey, he’s Batman, if the situation calls for it, he makes do.

My pitch was that Dick would be recovering, learning to be himself again, while Tim took over the mantle of Nightwing. It would be a story of two brothers bonding, caring for each other in the shadow of the Bat. Dick would be back in 6-12 issues. They went another way.
Quote
In Batman #55 (2018), KGBeast shot Nightwing in the head. Dick managed to survive, but he lost most of his memories. From 2018 to 2020, he was... Ric Grayson.

He meant so much. As a tribute to Stan and his immortal “Stan Lee presents,” since the start of my career, I’ve tried always to put a “DC Comics presents” before my titles. I told him this once. He nodded, patted my back, and said, “forget that, kid. Just write for Marvel.”

Talked to DC today. Lot of things right now are rightfully on pause. However. Comics - For 80 years running proudly made by isolated nerds remotely talking to each other - are going forward and going strong. We'll find a way to get them to you safely, and stories will be told.

Well now I’m fucking crying. Been working with Mikel since my first full comic (Nightwing 30). Did our first Batman together. A bunch of years and tears later, we’re finishing up our last. He tells every story with epic grace. I’m the luckiest writer in the world.

There’s a post going around questioning whether I served in the CIA. Which is odd, cause I did, and there’s a way for employers (like DC) to check. Anyway, here’s a picture of me in Iraq in ‘04 and an email from when I was getting Sheriff reviewed by the agency.
