But both artists do an excellent job with what is a very clever script from Stan Lee. Great ending! 6/6

It would have been interesting to see what Ditko would have done with the same page-count as Colan, of course. I suspect he would have enjoyed the experience, while Colan would have struggled to tell this story in only five pages... 5/6

It's a demonstration of how an artist with a paired-down, iconic approach like Ditko can tell a story more economically than a realistic, illustrative artist like Colan. 4/6

Ditko has only five pages while Colan gets ten, giving him the chance for much larger images and a much more slowly paced, moody atmosphere... 2/6

Here's an interesting comparison: Steve Ditko and Gene Colan drawing the same Stan Lee story, first published in Amazing Adult Fantasy #7 (1961) and Silver Silver Surfer #3 (1968) 1/6

It’s fascinating to read & Jo Duffy’s 1984 discussion about #StarWars storytelling in an immediately post-Return Of The Jedi’s release world...

Adding: I worked with #StevenMoffat eight times. I can tell you that working with him is wonderful, respectful, brilliant, zero misogyny(and I know misogyny) I count myself lucky-and I'm proud of the work. (have whatever opinion you choose, but this is the man I am lucky to know)

I already love The Valeyard, but the VNA'S recontextualising 7's darkness because he's scared of becoming The Valeyard and felt he had to go to extremes to not go down that fate, not realising that he's doing similar things that The Valeyard does, makes him a top 5 DW villain imo

(3/3) Walker himself served in the army (1943-47) and used his experiences to develop his approach to depicting military life. I’d say it worked out pretty well for him! (And if Beetle ever wanted to complete his college degree, he’d have some GI Bill benefits to help him out.)

As is well known, when “Beetle Bailey” was set in college, it struggled to gain traction. So Mort Walker, at the suggestion of his editor at the syndicate, shifted the strip to the military, and the rest is history (2/3):
