People don’t commit suicide because of an event, a person or a thing. You wouldn’t blame a person for someone else’s cancer, nor call someone weak for developing it. Only when we start talking about depression as a disease will stigma be erased.
Depression is not a disease, this classification implies you are powerless against it, and it's just something that happens to you like cancer. Depression is a direct result of the choices you make. Choose meaning, don't wallow in self loathing.

Like poverty? Or being over weight? Or an alcoholic? All personal choices, right?
-
Poverty, no, not a personal choice, but can be overcome with hard work and luck. Overweight? Start exercising. Alcoholic? Stop drinking.

So in your mind, diseases are things that people are powerless against and people choose to be depressed? Do you even understand the meaning of the words you are using?

-
Of course you are powerless over diseases, cancer, leukemia, ect are actual diseases that require cures, and can kill you. Depression is not a disease, it's a state of mind that can be overcome. If you convince yourself you are powerless, you will be.

Depression can be a serious disorder and you making light of it is certainly not helpful. People do not ask for depression and it isn't as easy as wishing it away. Comparing it to Cancers (like Leukemia) and other diseases etc. isn't helpful. It's a different beast entirely.

Wow you could not be more wrong. It seems you have been lucky enough to not have depression come for you and for that be thankful but have some empathy for those who are not so lucky. It is not as a result of choices made. Way to place blame.
