So, like, Betelgeuse - let's not go all nutty over a little dimming. It's long been known to be variable, has a huge tenuous outer atmosphere, and huge convection cells that individually span a large chunk of the "surface." Radiation transfer has a Poissonian component.

Are the solar neutrino detectors set up for detecting the energies of those neutrinos? Are the neutrinos similar energy as solar neutrinos? Are the detectors looking? A lazy search of the internets turned up nothing. I will ask my neutrino astrophysicists pals if they are here...

So thermal, which does mean lower E even late in the day than nuclear transition energies. May have been too enthusiastic with a paper I read decades ago. Cites of the 2016 paper in my thread say days, not a year. But, yeah, close as Betelgeuse is (220 pc) you get a heads up.

It also looks from present best-buy models that we've got the better part of 100k years to go. Here's a paper on all things Betegeuse:https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2016ApJ...819....7D/abstract …

"it would wail in neutrinos"...oh, how I love that image and poetic description, thank you!

Where's the IceCube live data stream? Are there any publicly funded neutrino detectors that we can plug into and monitor?

does LS work to catch presupernova neutrinos? it has relatively low energy threshold as i remember. idk but may help capture the β-neutrino flux a day or so before core collapse.
