If you want to find actionable ideas on your own the best method I know is picking the most currently disliked industries (for example oil, shipping, agriculture, mining) and try to figure out who makes the real money in each industry. This way you'll find hidden gems.

A-Z through distressed industries is a great method! If someone you admire likes an idea, and you know that beforehand? Biased. It’s not like I’m making this up. I’ve had astute investors tell me that coat-tailing has hurt them most, because it encouraged corner-cutting.

Then again, what Mohnish does, I don't think most do. He does extensive research, and has a rigorous checklist. But so do the investors I chatted with. Anyway, I have a long time horizon at Tiny, and doing what people think is too hard seems a right path to take.
