So Ben Jealous of People for the American Way is REFUSING to say that he is not suggesting the Chief Justice is being bribed?

Lisa Graves of the Center for Media and Democracy has now twice refused to say that she isn't accusing the Federalist Society of bribing the President of the United States.

Ms. Graves has twice more been asked directly if she's accusing the Federalist Society of engaging in bribery. Her answer was that it's a "red herring" and it depends on your definition of bribery.

She's been asked again, and her answer was that it doesn't fit the "very narrow definition" of bribery "in the United States Code," but that in some vaguely broader sense, it's engaged in bribery.

Ms. Graves refuses to agree not to accept anonymous donations.

LOL again with the "Koch brothers are evil becasue they spend their own money to support things they believe in"--as opposed, you know, to labor unions that fund Democrats with money taken out of people's paychecks against their wills. Okay.

Mr. Jealous is offended that Republicans would expect to enjoy the same constitutional protections that applied to people in the NAACP v. Alabama case in the 1950s. I guess cause the Constitution's protections are only for people you like and not for people you don't like.

I guess Democrats don't donate to presidential campaigns in hopes of getting people appointed to the Supreme Court who agree with their views. Good thing we have these angels among us.

Mr. Jealous is shocked that conservatives would donate to conservative candidates and that those conservatives, once in office would nominate conservative judges to the courts, and then that those judges, once on the courts, would issue conservative decisions. SHOCKING INDEED.

Despite repeated questions, Mr. Jealous still refuses to deny that he is alleging that the Supreme Court has been bribed.

So called "dark money" disclosure demands are designed to chill First Amendment rights by encouraging haraassment and retaliation. https://goldwaterinstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Dark-Money-paper.pdf …

The reason Mr. Jealous doesn't want the court to faithfully apply the NAACP v. Alabama precedent? It's not hard to guess: https://goldwaterinstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/naacp-1-16-2018-1.pdf …

Finally, at 4:46pm, for the first time, a witness ackowledges that there is "nothing insidious" about people supporting candidates in the expectation that those candidates, once elected, will nominate judges who share their perspective.

(I mean, a witness other than
@jadler1969, whose insight and common sense came as no surprise--and was, for that very reason, basically ignored by the committee.)Show this thread -
This whole "dark money" argmt inherently privileges a particular view of the political process: the idea that politics is a contest btwn the True Will of the People (represented by Democrats) & the nefarious greedy corporations represented by Republicans. This is childish & dumb.

Worse, it's being used by many, rather openly, as a device for intimidating and threatening people who disagree w you. As happened, e.g., in the Prop. 8 situation in California. https://www.heritage.org/marriage-and-family/report/the-price-prop-8 … Everybody knows this & everybody pretends otherwise.
