It's all well and good for John Roberts to play kindergarten teacher. But if he does not insist on a trial, he violates the Constitution, trivializes his office, and risks becoming a footnote in the history of American authoritarianism.

Guys. It’s so late in the process. How about: “I’m not gaveling the opening of a trial with no witnesses and a pre-determined outcome.” He didn’t do that, so he basically rolled.

I disagree. The trial is, in part, the Senate's show. Roberts has to give them the chance to make the right decision. If Senate Republicans now try to steamroll through a quick dismissal without witnesses and documents Roberts should stand up for legitimacy's sake.
