Why do we say "redacted"? The word is "censored."

Censored for national security reasons right? Remember how often that excuse was used during the G.W. Bush administration? Used to censor reports on torture in US run prisons in Iraq.. censored...etc.https://www.projectcensored.org/

Excellent point. Cons believe they are everybody’s moral arbitrator. Thisnfrom the party that elected traitor trump as their president. Barr is at it again. We all know it’s coming. Dems seem to be ready for it.

Come on. Redacted = removed from a legal document due to confidentiality or other grounds. Happens all the time and isn’t censorship, just protecting a process that is subject to objections and appeal etc. A scare word like “censorship” doesn’t clarify the issue, it clouds it.

It is censoring, of a very specific sort. It's for the reasons you've mentioned. And it's not limited to legal documents, per se. Nor is its use limited to use in a court room. (e.g. News outlet receives threatening email containing private citizens info, which is redacted)

No. The origin of censoring is not part of the definition. The reason is.

because the term literally means "censor or obscure, part of a text, for legal or security purposes." It's a more nuanced form of censoring as it conveys the reason for it.

If what Barr is doing isn't for those reasons, it's not redacting. It's a coverup.

POSSIBLY censored. I have no problem protecting investigations and methods. It's the only way to get justice. The courts are involved in watching redactions already. Let the process happen.
