I think Trump might have just intuited this up himself. He common sensed with his instincts that his words no longer need to be true or consistent to work, to get him attention and make him look good, and he doesn't bother to understand any of the other consequences of his words.

Timothy Snyder's little book "On Tyranny" is hugely important & should be required reading for all Americans. I can't keep a copy on my shelf, because each time I buy one I end up giving it away (four so far).
