The last US combat troops left South Korea on June 29, 1949, according to this archive snip from the NYTimes. On June 25, 1950 (less than a year later), North Korea invaded. US forces returned to the peninsula days later.

Navy doing the right thing here. Yet it probably seems odd that a 41-year old can enlist and a 38-year old can retire from the Navy in the same month. That will happen in 2023.
