We are enhancing our engagement with Southeast Asia - and we couldn’t do it without the expertise and hard work of our local and Australian staff. I thanked Ambassador Williams and her team for their support, and heard from them about their work.

I visited Bukalapak’s stall at the Digital Economy Ministers’ Meeting and sampled some digitally-enabled coffee ☕️- then caught up with fintech guru Victor Lesmana in Jakarta for a nerdy chat about building and retaining tech talent.

The ideas we talked about at today’s Roundtable will help inform the Jobs and Skills Summit next week, and I’m looking forward to continuing these discussions. It’s never been more important to build Australia’s Asia literacy.

It was great to have with us Matthew Grose, head of LOTE at Williamstown High in my electorate. Willi High’s long-standing partnership with Labschool in Jakarta is a fantastic example of how Asia capability can and should be embedded in Australian high schools.

Thanks for the great discussion, ! Really useful hearing New Zealand’s experiences integrating Maori world views into foreign policy in meaningful ways.  We’ll be paying close attention as we develop our own First Nations foreign policy. 🇦🇺🇳🇿
