@TimSweeneyEpic I've always wanted to know what inspired you to create unreal package format in such way that it is sort of object graph with import/export tables. I must say, this is one of the most elegant solutions I ever seen in game engines.

Thanks! Unreal packages were influenced by DLL import and export tables and by Java’s code package serialization format with hierarchically named imports and exports. Unlike Java, Unreal extended the idea to create a universal object format.

Thus the explosion of contextually ambiguous generlized data formats like JSON and XML. I feel there’s a sweet spot that could be obtained by standardizing a widely accepted set of types and combinators to define a universal standard for datatype and data definitions.
