I'm not really sure how the average kernel developer reads it. When I see his rants characterized on a site like Hacker News or elsewhere, people seem to believe he's actually angry and wants the person to feel attacked. I would hope he's just venting and not mad, personally.

This is a tricky situation since he's clearly mad at Intel, and has cause to be, but the patch author (Woodhouse) doesn't work for Intel and is trying hard to help fix things, so it's a bummer that he's catching a lot of heat for his efforts and having to fight in public.

I think there are people for whom the tech industry generally feels hostile and unwelcome, and for them, it would most likely be read in that tone.

Ultimately I just worry that a good contributor might eventually get fed up and move to something less stressful. "Davey is too scared that Linus might shout at him again" is a troubling thing to see a professional contributor say even if it's a joke.
