Maybe he’s saying if there wasn’t pressure to build faster chips that we’d (1) ship slower better ones, or (2) shift resources from speed design to safety.
That’s silly. The page protection bypass relies on a very complex and unexpected interaction that none of the smartest chip designers in the world had anticipated, neither academics nor any chip designers across the industry.
