@TimSweeneyEpic What are the chances of trying to move UE towards UTF-8 by default?Converting to UTF-16 at the platform layer when required.

Yeah this came up because I am sick of TEXT() everywhere. The platform abstraction layer should take care of that when needed. :(

But yeah the conversion would be a pain, maybe if you guys decide to break compatibility in a big way at some point (UE5 or something)

I'd rather just go to UTF-32. UTF-8 is a pain to deal with any time you need to do string manipulation or searching.

Those aren't really something you do in games though. I'd rather go with a real standard. UTF-8 won, it's ubiquitous thanks to the web,etc.
