Programming languages would benefit from <..> for strings, and the prefix < is unambiguous. Why not even <expr:text> for markup?
How about <b{class=“price”}:<span{class=“unit”}:$>20>, or classes as first-class expressions <price:<unit:$>20>

the problem is that some tags will contain; class, I’d, multiple data tags, style, value, name, type. would be nice though.

another problem with changing markup now is you would still need to support old browsers. I still need to support ie7/8
