The hope is to find a scheme that eliminates the ASIC advantage. Maybe the POW challenges to solve are JavaScript lambdas.

the slowing of Moore's law means that we (software developers) will constantly be in battle with unprogrammable ASICs

Also, it will get relatively cheaper to create special ASICs. I expect many more "custom" designs going forward.

Isn't that impossible? Anything in software can be implemented in hardware. You can only hope for prohibitive cost
