@TimSweeneyEpic to be honest, how do i know that the epic / unreal engine doesn't have a hidden agenda?

@Hyperion_Mage Maybe we do! But UE4 is distributed under a perpetual license with full source code. So, we can't change the rules mid-game.

@Hyperion_Mage Whereas, Microsoft can force-update Windows 10 any way it wants in the future, and users have no recourse.

@TimSweeneyEpic now with that I can see drawbacks but I think thats more an issue with policy then UWP.

@Hyperion_Mage Agreed. All would be solved if Microsoft made a long-term commitment to the specific technical details required for openness.

@TimSweeneyEpic @Hyperion_Mage And why could MS just change the Rules of Win32? Isn't that a thing?

@Stahlreck @Hyperion_Mage They could, but there would be massive outrage from users and devs. Thus there's more "safety in numbers".

@TimSweeneyEpic @Hyperion_Mage Ok but wouldn't that be also the case with UWP if devs would adapt it? Either way there would be a shitstorm.

@Stahlreck @Hyperion_Mage I see a technical difference that greatly affects this, but it's a bit nuanced, so here goes.

@Stahlreck @Hyperion_Mage win32 is nearly all-or-nothing in design. You can't take features away one by one without breaking apps entirely.

@Stahlreck @Hyperion_Mage UWP's sandbox enables Microsoft to gradually disadvantage non-Store apps one feature at a time to force devs in.

@Stahlreck @Hyperion_Mage For comparison, look at how Facebook gradually changed its rules to its advantage, one bit at a time.
