I truly wish GitHub and Epic got together and improved Unreal Engine so it’d be easy to host projects and collaborate in GitHub. Seeing pre-git versioning systems is... surprisingly painful. Ping some of the coolest CEOs on planet @natfriedman & @TimSweeneyEpic

I haven't tried GitHub yet, but I did give
@Bitbucket a try a few months ago. While it did support LFS, it did not support file locking which is an absolute must for non-coders IMO. GitHub apparently supports this though so workflow-wise it should be sufficient. -
File locking is only needed if you don’t communicate ;) Or... the teams at Next didn’t need that - all our Unity projects were in Github and the art team could handle that just fine.

(I’m a systems maximalist - I often ask why we can’t distribute games and patches via Git protocol and run gameplay networking via Git protocol, but everyone laughs!)

This may not perfectly satisfy your maximalism, but have you tried git-lfs?https://git-lfs.github.com
