Anyone who calls themself a "software engineer" should be required to be licensed, have a graduate degree in engineering & carry at least $1 million in professional liability insurance. And certain types of software should only be sold if approved by a software engineer.

Your engine has its history outside of those markets. It would still have been made, programmers would still have work. If it wanted to be used by an industry with more rigorous standards you would likely be able to contract/hire the software engineers (as defined) for signoff.

This isn't to say I fully support the original tweet, it has its issues, but this isn't what it is saying.

Canada has these regulations but Unreal was partially developed in Waterloo at some point and the engine is presumably sold in Canada for these purposes.

Lets be honest, UE would still remain used for engineering needs if regulators made it an elite field. What you should do then is make the licensing requirements that for everyone in their organization, they put a student through school every year they use UE for their projects

None of this will come to pass though. It's just a bad idea someone thought up because they're stuck at home and are using software with bugs a lot more often.

Actually it’s not. It’s incorporated by engineers with degrees. They’re legally responsible to make sure your code is up to up to par before incorporating it.

Some folks have degrees, some don't. Why on earth would you want a degree be required to program? It just creates unnecessary economic barriers in a field that's driven by talent.

Does this guy even know what he's talking about? According to his bio, he is mainly in media / legislation fields... Not surprised at all by the crap these people say when talking about scientific subjects...
