It's vital that smartphone platforms provide OPEN and UNIFORM terms for all developers. Given massive store P&Ls, there's intense pressure to divide & conquer through backroom deal-making. That would re-create the mess of the cable TV industry all over again. We must reject that!

Epic will stand firm with all developers in pushing for fair iOS and Google Play terms for everyone, will not accept special revenue sharing or payment terms just for ourselves.

The Epic Games Store gives developers and publishers freedom to use their own in-app purchasing systems tax-free, or ours, or both...

You rob market agents of their freedom to use whichever store/platform they desire. You're no different than Apple, the only difference is that store-level control over distribution benefits you, but when a bigger player (like apple) does the same thing to you, you cry injustice

The most effective way to compete with a store that started with 95%+ marketshare is through exclusive content. "Content is king", as they say. See Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, etc. (We're providing dev funding for many upcoming exclusives.)

Perhaps, but how exactly is that going to convince people to use your store full-time? Steam Has Many more features that I use on a regular basis, a more usable storefront, and a much more useful Library. Other than Exclusives, what does EGS offer me as a consumer?

Its more about convincing the dev/pubs to use Epic full time while ignoring a the more expensive stores. With Exclusive games, Epic can share the success of games through the Epic store that can convince many dev/pubs to use Epic and ignore the more expensive stores...

The most effective way to compete with uppity competitors is to utilize your massive platform advantage to lock them out. The most effective means is not always the most ethical, or free-market means. Try providing value to your customers instead of creating artificial scarcity

There has been "artificial scarcity" for over a decade, starting with Steam. Many dev/pubs chose to be exclusive to Steam because of what Steam offers them, just the same, many dev/pubs are choosing to be exclusive to Epic because of what is being offered to them.

That's nowhere fair to the user and is is anti-competition. You are not able to provide a service as good as Steam or without DRM like GOG so you go for the exclusivity because if skill and innovation can't get you there perhaps money can...

The most effective way to compete with Steam is working on a real community and on a high quality gaming environment with many feature, we are in the 2020 not 2000, not forcing people with exclusivities we don't want and with a ridicolous prehistoric launcher such as Egs.

I mean the fact that you aren't doing Guaranteed up front money anymore is good. There is a difference between helping fund, and giving them upfront sells. With Epic acting as a publisher, that means I have my voice as a consumer back so I will use the EGS
