Apple can't go on like this. Their bans on competing apps and competing payment services on iOS is breaking the evolutionary cycle of technology and even economics:https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-25/google-stadia-nvidia-geforce-microsoft-xcloud-not-on-apple-ios …

How else is a developer to reach those 1,000,000,000 customers on iOS when Apple blocks all competing stores?

by making an iOS native game available on the App Store? make it free and sell licenses for the full game on your own web store (or even the EPIC games store). Apple takes $0. i've done this in the past. works fine.

You are not allowed to do that. If you had actually "done this in the past", you'd know because Apple would have rejected the app.

we literally did this in the past. please don't talk if you're not an app developer. our app was accepted after we removed language about redirecting the user to sign up via web. literally this is what Netflix is doing with their subscriptions.

Apple requires developers who do this to adopt a terrible user experience. Your app is literally not allowed to take payments or even tell users how to make payments elsewhere. It’s an insane, passive aggressive rule.

Epic requires customers AND developers who go to the EGS to adopt a TERRIBLE user experience. Your indie devs are literally not allowed to sell their game elsewhere to make additional money. It's an insane, passive aggressive rule. See how hypocritical that is?

No, PC devs don't have to use Epic at all. iOS devs are forced to use the app store to reach devs at all.

Is it bad UX? Sure. But it's still entirely possible to take payments outside the App Store and reach those billion users. Apple took the risk and built the platform. They deserve some control and compensation over this. $99/year for a dev certificate isn't enough compensation.
