Again, making Borderlands 3 exclusive would be making generic cheeseburgers exclusive to only BK. Not just Whoppers. That's the analogy here.

What is the shopping cart in this analogy? Is it fries or is it more pickle-like?

No it would be a bag obviously, because it is such a simple concept and the only reason for a store to not have them is sheer laziness

Neither Google nor Apple use a shopping cart mechanic for their digital game stores. Steam has a shopping cart because it's a really old and outdated design concept.

Google and Apple also have an option to buy gift cards at a store, Epic lacks even that.

Sounds nice, but then you have a digital store and also a physical retailer each collecting a tax off of the developer’s hard work. With a 30% store tax, these inefficiencies creep in such that a dozen different companies might be taking a cut of your transaction.

I believe that Valve pays for those cards not the devs. Even then, there are countries where that is the most efficient way for them to purchase games for either cultural or economical reasons. I know in Japan a lot of places don't accept credit card.

Sure, that margin comes from inside Valve's 30% cut. But the point is, it's another place money in Steam's model goes to someone who doesn't make games.

The dev gets the same amount either way then. Without those cards, there are people who would have given $0 to the devs. What does it matter then?

The cards allow more people to even participate in the market. The devs get the same amount of money either way so I am not understanding the problem.

The problem is that Apple, Google, and Steam cards rely on 30% store taxes to be viable, due to retailer and distributor markups of 10%-15%. Adding more middlemen and more taxes isn’t the way to improve lives of developers.

I mean, give it time and Epic will find a way to install a cash siphon into gaming devices. The foundational weakness to any corporation is insatiable greed. The measure of a good one is the ability to inhibit it for market sustainability. Epic is sadly not such a corporation.pic.twitter.com/gaNHFrm66X

Restricting how many people can buy games isn't going to improve the lives of developers either.

If they want to make the Epic version better, it might be a better idea to work with Epic to make it possible to get new skins in Fortnite for buying games on there instead.
