The economical analogy actually holds in his example. Brand != Supply. Exclusivity is about blocking supply from competitors so consumers have to go through you as the distributor. Different brands of burger is all the same ingredients, whereas different games are not.

I believe that Valve pays for those cards not the devs. Even then, there are countries where that is the most efficient way for them to purchase games for either cultural or economical reasons. I know in Japan a lot of places don't accept credit card.

Sure, that margin comes from inside Valve's 30% cut. But the point is, it's another place money in Steam's model goes to someone who doesn't make games.

That reminds me. When a Steam release gets delayed because of Epic exclusivity, why aren't the console versions as well? Aren't they also taking a 30% cut?

Honestly I'm just thinking they're trying for a moral argument without being consistent.

I agree that money should go to the developers but the Point of Sale activated cards serve a good purpose as a small population of players don’t have the ability to pay with credit / debit cards.

Anyway, the reason I like having a gift card option is because not everyone has a credit or debit card they can use.

Yet developers make the same on all platforms, even on yours, unless they are self published also.

That is false. Take this for an example: https://app.box.com/s/6gj7tqrlsdegg7yp1s7hl3rlgctdv9lx … This developer gets 70% of the profits. Clearly, if the publisher was receiving 88% of the revenue instead of 70% of the revenue, then that leaves more room for profit which means the developer get more.
