This not only locks players and developers into Steam, but locks them into a PC-only silo. This is why we’ve been putting so much effort into cross-platform, cross-store services, even more than into the storefront itself.https://dev.epicgames.com/en-US/services
When will we have public web player profiles on the Epic Store? Steam is now a full-fledged social network with forums and tons of user-generated content like guides, fanart and trading.
I wasn't saying branching off afterwards in post release, I meant branching off as in not opting to be on any platform like Steam, or Epic or GoG and utilizing their own site as distribution.
The problem is, the accounts and social connections your game's users have built up over time (in your current or previous games) are no longer accessible because they're locked into Steam, so developers have to start over from nothing. That's now how it ought to work...
Amusing, actual features are now "service lock-in". Suggestion, work on features that Steam doesn't offer and then offer to set up a working group to share those features in a store/launcher agnostic way. Demanding to leech their features while doing nothing isn't playing fair.
I’ve been an adamant supporter of EGS. I’m hoping you all can get an achievement system up and running in the future. It’s a large draw for many gamers. Keep up the good work.
I wish all launchers could just get along better. Cross platform friends / chat, universal game libraries / stores, etc. With Steam input integrated into everything too. No launcher drama, just everything available in one place.
that'd mean no exclusive games and offering people a choice on where to get their games, thing that sweeney doesn't want
Tim, are you aware of any work being put into cross-platform integration frameworks for such services? We're going to need to do that ourselves for our next title one way or another. If not, maybe I should consider applying for a Epic grant to publicly release one?
