Fn gave us Battle Passes in 60$ games, a cancerous community, entitled streamers and the epic store. While the epic store seperated the pc community with their bought exclusivity while not innovating and instead didnt even do the bare minimum a gamestore should have in 2019/2020.

In short: Everything Epic has done after Fortnites success was throwing around money. But i hear nothing but praise about their Engine, so thats good i guess.

Credit where credit is due, Fn pushed Unreal Engine to be the best engine tech-wise on the market right now. Fn is probably the most cross-platform game out there. It's a damn shame that Epic owns the engine. I'll never use it again. I will not contribute to them with my money.

I feel like your proceedings with EGS are hurtful towards actual players. Buying exclusivity instead of providing features is not how you organically gain an audience, it's buying yourself a place in the system. (1/n)

And if you tout EGS a success, that makes me not believe the "If steam drops to 12% cut we'll stop buying exclusives" claim. I just don't. It makes no economical sense for you to drop EGS now. Based on how you handle EGS, I am doubly worried by moves like acquiring Quixel. (2/3)

You speak of destroying the monopoly, while acting like you just want to establish yourself as the one. Years ago we were told to "vote with our wallets" - I am doing just that, and extending that to not creating things in an engine if it means money goes to Epic. (3/3)

By extension I don't support developers who go exclusive. Not out of spite. I feel like buying on other platforms / after exclusivity expires only shows the devs that they can ignore their community, go with EGS, and still earn money (basically having two launches). (4/3)

Thanks for sharing. My view all along has been: 30% store fees are exploitative and the importance of overcoming them very much justifies a strategy of exclusives. Each person involved in gaming will have to make up their own mind on opposing either 30% or exclusives.

Because, ultimately, no amount of features of revenue sharing improvements could by themselves overcome the lock-in power of the $100,000,000,000 digital store monopolies each starting with over 95% marketshare. But exclusive games can and will!

Since 30% is the standard and fe steam doesnt only sell games but supports the devs with alot of their features, it is justified. But you dont even try it to establish some new features. All you have are exclusivs and free games.

How do you know it is justified when you don't know the costs? Also what about all the devs who don't need most or any of that beyond distribution and stors page? They are paying the same as those who do use it.
