Programming languages without garbage collection send us down a long path of design decisions that lead to slow compile times and fragile runtime performance cliffs.

The language I am working on works this way. Well, I wouldn't say "orthogonal" is quite the right word, but, there are ways to specialize functions that don't involve making types, and they are simple and fun to use.

This can be done entirely at compile time and doesn't require GC or anything like that.
