Copy a reference: 6 cycles. Read a transactional variable: 25 cycles. Write or read-modify-write a transactional variable: 40 cycles. Can probably be optimized a bit further.

What are your primary use cases for the pervasive multiprecision integer math? It's not obvious to me where that's required instead of FP or just int math with rigorous overflow detection. My concern is less for amortized costs for cycles than for I$ and BP/BTB space.

folk PL stats say there are steeply diminishing returns in regular (non crypto / number theory) code after 2x your word size (i.e., [u]int128). OTOH, branching on OF should have minimal overhead on code that doesn't need it… ok w/ optimistically specialized bblocks/functions?
