Candidate solutions like transactional memory and Unity ECS are interesting but unproven at scale.

There’s the general issue of the class NC (efficiently parallelizable problems) being believed to be smaller than P (tractable problems). So I wouldn’t expect to find an approach that feels good for everything. But good news a lot of stuff in games/sims is parallelizable.
