Microsoft already gained the trust of PC players without the need for Steam. The "Xbox Game Pass Ultimate" or "Xbox Game Pass for PC" drove a lot of PC gamers to their subscription model.

I agree that the 30% cut doesn't make sense, considering most storefronts either have first party projects or platforms that provide more than enough to keep the profit split lower (EG/Fortnite, Steam/SteamVR and Games, GOG/CDPR Games, etc).

When running a business 30% makes totally sense when publisher want to use Steam. Almost none of the huge publishers with their own launchers skips Steam.

Other services tax game sales to provide a service. You bribe publishers to get games to get a piece of the pie that you feel you're missing out on. Got it.

So essentially, shock the market into a more uniformed domain for the PC market. I would argue the best step here would be for EGS to work deeply with GOG to ensure Galaxy 2.0 can be used as an integrated storefront and launcher.
