Till we have automated self-service for developers, we are choosing the highest priority release opportunities. We prioritize exclusives, free game releases, and the most notable indie and triple-A titles. Some games that make sense as exclusives didn’t make sense otherwise.
There are two different cases key: keys in retail (a standard and uncontroversial practice that Epic supports) and key distribution online by super shady brokers that often are fronts for fraud groups.

You're mistaking key distribution models.
@TimSweeneyEpic stated that no developer wants to have keys to sell "anywhere" on a digital platform. Most keys on sites like g2g are auto-generated by using Steam's algorithm or scammed by refunding post-key collection. - 3 more replies
