It's the same thing that almost ruined the Xbox brand at the launch of Xbox One. Microsoft wanted to force always online, removing our choice. You are buying exclusives, also removing our choice. MS reversed their decision and gave us the choice back.

The thing EGS is missing is a sense of community. When I open Steam I can see what others are doing, which games they like, how much they have played, what games are hot. Profile, achievements, reviews, forums. Otherwise its just a tool for buying games.

We have a lot more of this in Fortnite than the Epic Games store right now. Expect more social features in 2020 as more multiplayer games come online.

Playstation use a leveling system, and Xbox have a score system. Both works well. Steam doesn't really have anything, so they aren't as fun. There's also too many achievements spam games on Steam, and they can easily be cheated.

The one thing I actually do like about EGS is quality control. No worthless trash games that was made in a single day. Never change that.

Tying achievements to servers will probably be a wise decision if possible.
