We write numbers backwards as a result of importing right-to-left Arabic numbers into left-to-right Latin writing without reversing them. Thus the need to right-justify columns of numbers to have their place values align, and perform addition right-to-left.

In a verbal communication you always know the exact number, thus the notation just represents this communication You don't need to "interpret" anything - you look at a number and you know exactly(separators help). When it's beyond visual comprehension - notation X x 10^X is used
