If Epic is so concerned about the developers why does it still take a percentage of the earnings when someone uses Unreal Engine? The more time a developer spends making a good game the more money Epic gets for the same "service" without extra effort.Sounds fair @TimSweeneyEpic

But why the percentage? Should Microsoft ask you to pay them 5% for using their OS to develop/sell your engine or have a store to sell your products? Should every H/W company also ask Microsoft to pay a 5% to use their H/W to develop/sell their OS? (Not even Microsoft does that.)

We've always preferred a business model which aligns Epic's interests with those of our partners. With this model, we succeed only when partners succeed. The way companies sell their software has a profound impact on the incentives they have in developing it.
