“See developers? It’s perfectly normal for a company that had nothing to do with creating your game make more profit from it than you while you bear all the costs. It’s the industry standard!!!”https://twitter.com/IGN/status/1181298434587975680 …

Speaking with games industry sources, we break down how much major retailers take from the sale of a game, and find Steam’s 30% revenue cut is actually the industry standard. http://bit.ly/2MpdweD  pic.twitter.com/2RXwBGKawR

Aside from the main stupidity here, of my pet peeve with how those breakdown articles shape perception is that they all ignore the fact that in most regions VAT is also taken out. On Steam the average income for a $10 game is more $6 than $7.

It’s a shame as this was a lost opportunity for great investigative journalism. What about the non-public revenue sharing terms negotiated between major publishers and stores and key sellers? How much better do they do than the advertised 70% revenue share?

Is this a promise that you will publish the exact details of every exclusivity deal signed? Like how many copies a game has to sell in order for the store to break even after paying out the promised minimum revenue to the publishers?

No, deal terms are confidential with partners. We’d only share details if there were mutual agreement on doing that.

Then why call out this article for not publishing the same confidential terms from another platform?

If an investigative journalist were able to find out terms of other stores’ confidential deals, or our store’s confidential deals, they have strong first amendment protections in publishing articles about them, whether or not we or the stores were cooperative.

          Replying to @TimSweeneyEpic @SirCB85 and

We’ve said that all out our agreements are 88%/12% and that we fund exclusives through a combination of project funding, minimum revenue guarantees, marketing guarantees, and other partnership arrangements. We just don’t disclose specific funding numbers per project.
