Niklaus Wirth lives! Here's an amazing interview from 2018 about programming language principles and history. (It makes me hope Carmack is still giving impromptu talks when 2054 rolls around.)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUgrS_KbSI8 …

I like the first quote more, but even the ancients knew you can make a pretty big pyramid before it collapses from its weight. There are lots of famous quotes about simplicity though. Einstein's "Simple as possible but no simpler", KISS principle, etc.

Wirth's https://www.amazon.com/Algorithms-Structures-Programs-Niklaus-Wirth/dp/8120305698 … got me hooked on programming when I was studying physics & math w/o computer at home, just a PET a friend down the street had, then DEC minis at university. My pal Michael Franz of UCI was student of Wirth's, said W did become pilot late in life!
