It remains an interesting thought experiment if computing had wound up more Pascal/Modula/Oberon flavored instead of C flavored.

We'd have something like OCaml or SML, but more mainstream-ish I'm guessing. Luca Cardelli (the person who wrote the first SML compiler) also helped design Modula-3.

Thanks for that video link. I enjoyed using Pascal in college. The CDC 6600 compiler did heroic things with packed records and its 60-bit words. The hegemony of UNIX and then Windows really forced C and C++ on us.
