The @IraGame team should be careful about getting themselves into an Epic Exclusive deal though, since that is the only thing Epic seemingly wants. (DarQ situation)
Why should they be careful? Cause their kickstarter promised Steam-keys. Unfortunately a recipe for backlash. O_o

We'd absolutely hear
@EpicGames /@TimSweeneyEpic out if they were interested in having Ira. We'd love to be part of the Epic store. Point taken though. We'd have to weigh out the pros and cons just like any other developer.2 replies 0 retweets 5 likes -

Going Epic Exclusive is an understandable choice for developers (and can be accepted by gamers for the right reasons), but devs do need to be careful with previously promised Steam Keys. The past has showed that 'that' can be quite the spark for outrage. :c

Yes, that absolutely is the case. Of course this is all hypothetical, but, if
@EpicGames offered us a deal that would support our studio then it would be difficult to say no. We love#UE4 as it's made@IraGame possible. It all depends on what type of partnerships we can get.3 replies 0 retweets 3 likes -

Thanks. Let’s keep in mind that the Steam key issue with crowd funded games is an unfortunate side effect of kickstarters launched before the Epic Games store’s strategy was known running up against Valve’s new policy preventing Steam key distribution to backers of exclusives.

That stealth policy chance has the effect of forcing crowd funded games to choose between a public Steam release or a backlash, but Epic is fully committed to working with new partners in these situations to ensure backers can choose between an Epic key or a refund.

Don’t you mean choosing between “Keeping their word” or facing backlash? I think gamers just want to know that *anything* stated in the run up to a game’s release can be relied upon. Because if one thing can change at the last minute, anything can change. Hardly encouraging.

It’s Valve’s doing that exclusive developers can’t grant prior Steam key offers. Devs would be happy to give Steam keys to backers, Epic would be happy if devs gave Steam keys to backers, but Valve says: NO! Give us 30% of most of your revenue or backers are stranded.

Do you even have Valve's ToS saying that devs can't give out keys, Tim? Or even better... Doesn't YOUR ToS forbidden the games being on another store, even for the sake of fulfilling a previous agreement with it's backers?

The problem isn’t devs giving out Steam keys, it’s that Valve reserves the right to not provide keys to devs based on some very subjective criteria; see https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/keys …. Not sure how the key ecosystem can invest with those kinds of terms in place.

Epic doesn’t have public store TOS in place yet because we’re not yet open to public submissions. Our private distribution agreements all support selling through Humble via keys and direct purchase with no limits. Other sellers coming later.

How is the "no limits" a good thing here? The publishers can request an infinite supply of keys and sell for the same price of your store. Or even take it down from your store in sales periods and sell it through undiscounted key prices. Like Borderlands 3 on last EGS sale.

Oh yes, the one where EGS decided to declare a sale on almost everything without consent from publishers and then had to remove items on requests to stop publishers from losing profits.
